Inclusion & Accessibility at Capital Health Screening Centre

Empowering People of Determination with the tools to thrive

At Capital Health Screening Centre, we believe that true excellence in healthcare begins with empathy – and is sustained through equity. That’s why we’re committed to creating an environment and patient experience where every individual feels understood, respected, and supported, including People of Determination and those living with hidden disabilities such as autism, hearing loss, and mental health conditions.

Where Accessibility Meets Excellence in Care

Our Commitment

  • Improve the care experience for People of Determination and individuals with hidden disabilities
  • Empower patients through choice, autonomy, and the right to thrive
  • Lead by example as a healthcare network that prioritizes equity, compassion, and innovation

As part of our commitment, we’ve launched the following initiatives designed to make every patient journey smoother, more empowering, and responsive to individual needs.

The Sunflower Lanyard Program

In partnership with the internationally recognized Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Network, we are both proud and honored to be the first healthcare provider in the region to implement this initiative.

How it works:

  • Green lanyards: For individuals with hidden disabilities who wish to discreetly self-identify.
  • White lanyards: For caregivers or companions providing support.

It’s entirely optional – based on personal choice.

Wearing a sunflower lanyard can help our team recognize that you may need a bit of extra support and time during your time at our facility.

Portable Hearing Loops

To better support patients with hearing aids or cochlear (hearing) implants, we’re introducing Portable Hearing Loop Systems across our high-traffic areas and reception desks.

How it helps:

  • Improves sound clarity and makes conversations easier
  • Stays with you throughout your time at our facility
  • Supports your independence and reduces stress

These portable devices are available upon request at reception.

If you have questions or would like to learn more about inclusion tools available at our facilities, please speak to a staff member at our reception or the Patient Experience team.

We’re not only making healthcare more accessible, but more compassionate, more connected, and truly designed for everyone.
